The University of California, Santa Barbara's Trans & Queer Commission is hosting the first-ever Pride Festival in Isla Vista, named QTOPIA, as a way to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and promote inclusivity amid a backdrop of anti-LGBTQ legislation introduced across the US. The event will feature a giant water slide, music, food, arts and crafts, and specials from local businesses that will benefit the Pacific Pride Foundation. Organizers hope the festival sends a message that LGBTQ+ communities deserve respect and the freedom to live authentically.
