In response to the election of Donald J. Trump as President and the subsequent increase in discrimination and hatred towards the LGBTQ+ community and other marginalized groups, UC Santa Barbara hosted the "Mapping Dissent" project in April 2017. Led by artist Lorena Wolffer, this intervention collected testimonies from students, staff, faculty, and community members and placed them on campus as street signs. The project aimed to give voice to the emotions and experiences of the LGBTQ+ community and foster solidarity, challenging the prevailing norms and flows on the campus while addressing the deep-seated issues of discrimination and violence that persist in society.
