Starting in June, UC Santa Barbara (UCSB) will use preferred student names in all campus services, including student IDs and class rosters, to promote transgender inclusivity. The transition was a complex task due to the various systems and databases involved. The change allows students to use their preferred first name without requiring legal documentation, benefiting a broad population, including international students and those who go by middle names or nicknames. However, the system update does not currently include displaying preferred pronouns.
